Cycling & Walking trails
The South Downs has something for every kind of cyclist and walker to enjoy and explore. As a family we regularly cycle from Alfriston, to Litlington and along to Exceat and picnic on the beach, sometimes stopping off en route in West Dean and Friston Forest. We are now offering (adult) bike hire to our guests to give everyone the opportunity to escape the everyday, get energised and feeling great.
As well as the famous South Downs Way to explore there are 1,200 km of car-free bridleways across the National Park, miles of leafy country lanes and old railway trails including the Downs Link, Meon Valley Trail and Centurion Way. Why not try the Rathfinny Trails, which are right on our doorstep.
The 160km long South Downs Way is the only UK’s National Trail which is fully traversable by bike and there are many ways to enjoy it.
You could ride along the ridge to reach Ditchling Beacon and enjoy the view or cycle along the Hampshire Hangers and single track mountain bike trails at Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
With so many tracks, trails and leafy lanes to discover and great places to stop for locally produced food and drink there’s never been a better time to discover the South Downs by bike, on foot and leave the car at home!

Whatever your reasons for stepping foot on the South Downs, there’s a route that’s right for you. In fact there are more routes here than in any other National Park in the UK – 3,300km of footpaths, bridleways and byways in total. We can also arrange pick up from the surrounding train station routes allowing you the freedom to travel and explore.
Why not walk to visit Rathfinny wine estate on your travels, or take one of their organised tours https://rathfinnyestate.com/tour/ then come back to your cabin and relax to enjoy a bottle of Sussex Sparkling Classic Cuvee.
We have an area by each cabin to wash equipment including mountain bikes for guests, there is also somewhere to lock bikes.
